A Bad Year for Tomatoes is a comedy by John Patrick about Myra Marlowe, a gracious, glamorous television actress, who, after a long and successful career, moves to a cottage in the small town of Beaver Haven, Vermont where all she wants to do is live quietly and anonymously, write her juicy autobiography, and grow her own tomatoes.
When her faithful agent and less-faithful lover insists that she is throwing herself away on a backwards backwater of a town, it falls on deaf ears until she gets to know her neighbors who have other ideas: Reba and Cora, the Hospitality Ladies, full of rapid-fire gossip and rapid-fire questions and woodcutter Piney, impressively bearded and smelling of the great outdoors, are constantly interrupting her.
To avoid their constant interruptions, Myra invents a maniacal sister locked in an upstairs room who escapes from time to time . . . and the fun begins.
Tracy Larson, a member of our church family, is Director of A Bad Year for Tomatoes.
