Upcoming Events

31st Annual UMW Spiritual Growth Retreat will be held October 23-25, 2009 at the Hinton Rural Life Center in Hayesville, North Carolina. This year’s theme is “This is My Story….” Cost is $120.00 and payments can be made in installments. Registration and final/full payment is due by October 1. Make all checks payable to Morrow UMW. Annual BBQ, Pumpkin Sale, Yard Sale, and Fall Festival – Saturday, October 17

  • Serving hours for BBQ: 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Cost: $8.00 plate with plates to go available. Tickets will be mailed week of September 21.
  • Use Orange Envelopes in pews to make donations for Pumpkins. Donations will be accepted through Sunday, October 18. All donations will be used to buy pumpkins. Proceeds to benefit special programs in the church.
  • Yard Sale donations are being accepted now and may be placed in the all purpose room across from the conference room. Please do not donate anything that is broken or doesn’t work. For pick up of large items, call Lisa Brandenberger at 678-463-9663 or email her at halllah801@hotmail.com.
  • Fall Festival: live entertainment, Moonwalk, popcorn & cotton candy machines, face painting.

 

Fourth Annual Mary Alice Boyd Memorial Scholarship Awarded. This scholarship is named in memory of Mary Alice Boyd who was involved in Christian Education for many of her 33 years as an active member of Morrow First United Methodist Church. When she died in June 2005 after a long, courageous battle with cancer, the church chose to honor her memory with an annual scholarship given in her name. The Mary Alice Boyd Scholarship Committee welcomes applications from high school students projected to graduate in the current school year, current college students, older adults going to college for the first time or returning to college, or post graduate students. Mary Alice Boyd Memorial Scholarship 2009 Ashley Marie Parsons

The 2009 winner of the Mary Alice Boyd Scholarship is Ashley Marie Parsons. Ashley is the daughter of Joanne Parsons of Stockbridge. Ashley’s home church is Community Bible Church is Stockbridge, but she has been an Associate Member (a member of another denomination who is active at MFUMC but retains membership in his/her home church) of Morrow First United Methodist Church since September 11, 2007.

Ashley graduated from Union Grove High School in May of 2006 with a B average. While in high school Ashley was on the Debate Team. She began her studies at Clayton State University in the fall of 2006 focusing on a major in Communications and Media Studies. Ashley’s goal is to become a news anchor. As her health permits, she is an active member of the Young Adult Class at Morrow First United Methodist Church.

Ashley has overcome many physical obstacles in her life, and continues to strive to get her college degree. Her dedication to her goals and her determination to achieve those goals is an inspiration to all.
